Arsenal misfit Guendouzi aims swipe at Gunners after joining Lazio
Former Arsenal midfielder Matteo Geundouzi has aimed a sly dig at his old club after moving to Lazio this summer from Olympique Marseille.
Guendouzi happy with life in Lazio
Guendouzi played 82 times for the Gunners during a four-year spell at the club, despite spending two of those years out on loan.
Yet he was unable to make a lasting impression on the Arsenal team, losing his place in the side to attitudinal problems that appeared to overshadow his natural talent.
He returned to his native France on a permanent basis in 2022 with Marseille and was impressive for Les Minots during his only permanent season with the club, before sealing a summer loan move to Lazio in Serie A.
Guendouzi thanks Lazio fans
Upon joining the Capital Club, Guendouzi was eagerly welcomed by teeming Biancocelesti fans and was pleasantly surprised by his reception.
The French midfielder expressed his joy about being received so well by the Lazio faithful, telling Il Messaggero, “The fans’ passion in this city is amazing. I was welcomed warmly, like in Marseille, but more than at Arsenal. I will pay them [Lazio fans] back with interest.”
Since signing for Lazio, Guendouzi has become an essential part of the Bincocelesti team, making eight appearances across all competitions and chipping in with an assist against Celtic in the UEFA Champions League.
