Premier League title contenders Arsenal have joined the race to sign Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo.
Cancelo has been on loan at Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich after a fallout with his manager at City, Pep Guardiola.
Bayern have the option to make the transfer permanent for £70 million but will have to beat competition from another English side Arsenal for Cancelo’s signature.
Arsenal join Cancelo race
With reports that the fee for the Portuguese defender might be too much for German side Bayern to activate their option-to-buy clause, Cancelo has now become a man in demand.
According to a report from 90 Mins via Caught Offside, Bayern are not the only club who wants the versatile defender, with Arsenal the latest to join the race.
The Gunners are said to have indicated their interest in the 28-year-old as manager Mikel Arteta looks to go back to his former club to shop.
The Cityzens have become a place of choice for the Gunners following the acquisition of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko last summer.
Both players have been superb since they arrived at the Emirates, helping Arteta and his Gunners to a credible title race with City in their first season at the club.
With the success of both players, it should not come as a surprise that Arteta is set to invade the Etihad for another City defender as he looks to close the gap between his team and the English champions.
Cancelo has featured 12 times in the Bundesliga since he moved to Bayern, starting nine of those matches.
