Arsenal vs Liverpool: How it happened

Arsenal began as the hungrier side, the team with the momentum, and that energy paid off as Bukayo Saka pounced on a rebound from Kai Havertz shot to break the deadlock.

Arsenal’s dominance grew after the opener, and there were a number of openings.

However, the Emirates was left stunned seconds before the break as Luis Díaz caused indecision between William Saliba and Raya, capitalising by poking the ball in off Gabriel Magalhães’ hand.

In the second half, the seesaw battle continued, and Arsenal reclaimed the lead after Liverpool's defensive mishap.

Van Dijk and Alisson collided when dealing with Gabriel's long ball, allowing Martinelli to score into the empty net. Konaté received a second yellow card in the 88th minute, and Liverpool's woes deepened as Leandro Trossard's shot went through Alisson's legs, securing Arsenal's third straight victory.

Mikel Arteta celebrated wildly as his team narrowed the gap to Liverpool at the top of the PL table to just two points. The Gunners not only intensified the title race but also handed Liverpool their first defeat in 12 matches across all competitions.
