I like dealing with people - Ashleigh Plumptre reveals career choice outside football

Former England youth international and Super Falcons star, Ashleigh Plumptre, has opened up about her academic background and career aspirations outside of football.

The 27-year-old defender, who once represented England at the U15, U17, U19, and U23 levels, made headlines when she switched allegiance to Nigeria, her father’s country of origin.

Plumptre made her senior debut for the Super Falcons in February 2022 and played an important role at the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations.

Plumptre who was awarded a national award, Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), received a $100,000 cash prize and a three-bedroom apartment in the Renewed Hope Estate, Abuja, by President Tinubu after winning WAFCON, revealed her career choice outside football.

“If I weren’t playing football professionally, I definitely would be in healthcare,” Plumptre said via Nigerian Tribune.

She added, “I studied Human Biology at university. I’ve always wanted to go to medical school. I like dealing with people and I find the human body fascinating.”

Earlier, Plumptre stated she is proud to wear the Super Falcons jersey, a decision driven by profound personal reasons.

"I’ve been out to identify the part of my heritage that I’ve never really been able to delve into before, and also be a representation of other young people, especially mixed-race people, who need to identify with being here nor there, but feel connected to two different cultures," she said.

The energetic defender has made 25 appearances for the Super Falcons since switching nationality.
