Ashleigh Plumptre: Super Falcons defender celebrates 'unreal' US Open Champion Coco Gauff
Nigerian defender Ashleigh Plumptre was one of those who reacted to the historic performance of United States Tennis star Coco Gauff.
Coco Gauff joined the list of grand slam winners after an incredible win in the US Open final on Saturday.
Gauff came from behind to beat favourite Aryna Sabalenka 2-6 6-3 6-2 to claim her first-ever grand slam.
Coco joins exclusive list
As reported by Pulse Sports, the remarkable display from the youngster saw her join a list that includes some greats in the sport.
The 19-year-old became the youngest American to win any Grand Slam title since compatriot and legend Serena Williams in 1999.
Also, she is now the 10th teenager to ever lift the US Open in the history of the competition.
She joins a group that includes (Serena) Williams, Tracy Austin, Stefanie Graf, Monica Seles, Martina Hingis, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Maria Sharapova, Bianca Andreescu and Emma Raducanu.
Plumptre reacts
Following the impressive display and win, Nigeria Super Falcons star, Plumptre, joined the world to celebrate Coco’s feat.
The former Leicester City defender took to her Instagram account to react with a very simple message for the latest champion.
“Unreal,” Plumptre posted on her Instagram stories as monitored by Pulse Sports hours after Coco sealed her first slam.
Plumptre was one of Nigeria’s best performers at the recently concluded ninth FIFA Women’s World Cup, FIFAWWC.
The tournament which was co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia saw the Super Falcons make it to the round of 16 before bowing out despite a brave battle against eventual runners-up, England.
Plumptre played a key role in Nigeria’s impressive outing, helping Nigeria keep three clean sheets in four matches while she reserved her best performance for the Lionesses of England, the country of her birth.
The 25-year-old is currently looking for a new club after her contract at Leicester expired in the summer.
