Asisat Oshoala: Zambian star named best Women's footballer in the world ahead of Agba Baller
History has been made after Zambian superstar Rachael Kundananji dethroned Alexia Putellas as the best women’s player in the world.
Kundananji defeated Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala to become the first Africa to top the Goal 50 list for both men’s and women’s categories.
Oshoala’s year in view
Nigeria’s Oshoala recently made history as she became the first player to be crowned the best women’s player in Africa six times.
The 28-year-old picked up her latest award as Africa’s football queen in a lavish ceremony held in Morocco earlier this month.
Oshoala’s award came on the night that also saw her friend and compatriot Victor Osimhen become the first Nigerian in 24 years to be named CAF Player of the Year.
Agba baller’s crowning achievement came as a result of her outstanding performance for Barcelona Women and the Super Falcons, who she inspired to the knockout stage at the 2023 FIFAWWC.
Racheal takes Goal award
However, despite her exploits and award from CAF, Goal readers have crowned Zambia’s Racheal as the best women’s football player in the world.
Per Goal 50, the Zambian is said to have had ‘an electric 2022-2023 season, where she scored 25 goals in just 29 matches for Madrid CFF, while also scoring her first-ever FIFAWWC goal after helping Zambia to a first-ever World Cup appearance.
Those achievements saw her edge Nigeria’s Oshoala, the CAF Player of the Year, who was considered only good enough for second place on the list.
Oshoala is followed by another FIFAWWC star, Linda Caicedo fo Colombia, who complete the top three in a Liga F-dominated podium.
