Barcelona have reportedly submitted an initial proposal for Bayer Leverkusen star Jonathan Tah as they seek to bolster their defensive ranks next summer.
The 28-year-old has been with Die Werkself since 2015 and his association with the club is set to end in 2025 with the expiration of his contract, as he has turned down a renewal offer.
Clubs are circling like sharks to sign him as a free agent. One such club is Barcelona, now reported to have made a concrete move.
The details
According to a report from the reliable Fabrizio Romano, the Blaugrana have sent a proposal to Tah’s representative over a free agent signing for the end of the season.
Barcelona's head coach, Hansi Flick, shares an agent with Tah, Pini Zahavi, and according to the report, the Blaugrana's sporting director, Deco, leveraged the already established relationship and the initial meeting for the centre-back's signing went smoothly.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are reportedly open to the idea of selling midfielder Frenkie de Jong after the continued impasse over his contract renewal.
The 27-year-old joined Barcelona from Ajax in the summer of 2019 as a top prospect for a whopping €86 million fee. Barcelona are now said to be open to selling him for as low as €20 million.
