Barcelona dominated the first half but it was Real Sociedad who scored the first goal through Merino’s strike. The away side added the second goal of the game in the second half through a close-range strike from Alexander Sorloth. Barcelona scored a consolation goal in second-half injury time from a Lewandowski header.

As it happened

Xavi Hernandez made three changes to his team that defeated Espanyol last week with Dembele, Jordi Alba and Frank Kessi coming into the side while Real Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil Barrenetxes made five changes to his side that drew to Girona.

Barcelona started the game brightly and were looking for the first goal of the game but it was the away side that shocked them with the opening goal. Alexander Sorloth produces a great pass that finds Mikel Merino inside the penalty area, who takes advantage of the situation to rifle a low shot into the back of the net.

The league winners went into the halftime break with a one-goal deficit and were beating themselves for not taking their chances.

The home side came into the second half and still struggled to get past Real Sociedad defence. As the second half went on, the away side doubled their lead when a great pass found Alexander Sorloth in acres of space after a fine counterattack. He brings the ball under control before firing it past the helpless keeper from close range.

Barcelona got a consolation goal for themselves in the 90th minute of injury time when Robert Lewandowski leaps to meet a brilliant cross and plants a header beyond the goalkeeper into the top left corner.

Despite the loss, Barcelona were still crowned the LaLiga champions. However, this loss comes as their first defeat in Camp Nou this season.
