Double Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet has boldly predicted a podium sweep for Kenya in the women’s 5000m at the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo.

The 25-year-old is confident that alongside teammates Faith Kipyegon, Agnes Ng’etich, and Margaret Akidor, Kenya has assembled a near-unbeatable force.

“With Faith (Kipyegon), as well as Agnes (Ng’etich) and Akidor (Margaret), I am confident we can go on and sweep the podium places in Tokyo. It is a very strong team,” Chebet stated as quoted by Capital FM Sports.

The statement from Chebet comes on the heels of an electrifying ninth leg of the Diamond League series in Eugene, Oregon, where Kenyan women dominated headlines with record-breaking performances.

Chebet herself stormed to a new world record of 13:58.06 in the women’s 5000m, becoming the first woman in history to dip under the 14-minute mark on the track in that event.

Hot on her heels was Agnes Ng’etich, who clocked a personal best of 14:01.29, cementing her place as a serious medal contender.

Not to be outdone, Faith Kipyegon reaffirmed her status as a middle-distance icon by breaking her own 1500m world record.

She lowered the mark from 3:49.04 to a jaw-dropping 3:48.68, further underlining her versatility and range heading into Tokyo.
