Benson Omala Cleared by FIFA to Rejoin Gor Mahia in Premier League Title Race
Gor Mahia have received a major boost in their quest for FKF Premier League glory after striker Benson Omala was officially cleared by FIFA to play.
The clearance ends a prolonged standoff following his troubled stint abroad with Lebanese Arabian side Al Safa.
Omala, the 2023/24 FKF Premier League top scorer, had returned to Gor Mahia after terminating his contract with Al Safa.
However, Omala's return was stalled by a contractual dispute, with the Lebanese club insisting he must serve the remainder of his deal, putting both the player and Gor Mahia at risk of FIFA sanctions had he featured in any matches.
Determined to resolve the matter, Omala escalated the issue to FIFA, and the verdict has finally gone in his favor.
Gor Mahia Confirm FIFA Green Light
In an official announcement posted across Gor Mahia’s social media platforms on Wednesday, April 9, the club declared that Omala was now eligible to play.
"Striker Benson Omalla is now free to play for us after being cleared by FIFA; the player has been training with us for some time as we waited for clearance. We officially welcome back Omalla," the statement read.
The news brings much-needed relief to both the club and fans who have eagerly awaited the return of their talisman.
Timely Boost in Three-Way Title Race
Omala’s return couldn’t have come at a better time for Gor Mahia.
The reigning champions are in the thick of a heated title race, trailing league leaders Kenya Police (49 points) and second-placed Tusker (48 points), with Gor sitting just behind in third with 46 points.
Head coach Sinisa Mihic has repeatedly stressed the need for a proven goal scorer, and Omala’s availability adds vital firepower as the team pushes for a record-extending 22nd league title.
With Omala back and cleared for action, the final leg of the season promises to be an electrifying showdown for the title.
