Despite not featuring in the decisive match, Mandela's contributions over the season have been pivotal in Sundowns' dominant run to the DStv Premiership title.

On a night of celebration for Sundowns, they delivered a resounding 5-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on Thursday.

The win not only clinched their 17th league title but also extended their impressive unbeaten streak in the league to 48 matches, a record stretching back to September 2022.

While Mandela watched from the sideline his teammates put on a show of strength and skill.

Tashreeq Matthews was the star of the evening, scoring twice to lead the charge. Matias Esquivel, Lucas Ribeiro, and Thembinkosi Lorch also found the back of the net each adding to the scoreline that overwhelmed a 10-man Chiefs team whose defender Given Msimango was sent off early in the match for a last-man foul.

The Brazilians' relentless pressure and tactical superiority were evident as they controlled the game dictating the pace and keeping the Chiefs at bay.

With six games still to play the Brazilians are not just aiming to finish the season as champions but to do so unbeaten.

Mandela's role in this successful campaign cannot be overstated. Since joining Sundowns in October 2020 from Maritzburg United on a free transfer the Kenyan international has been a rock at the heart of the defense.

Looking ahead Sundowns are set to continue their quest for silverware in the Nedbank Cup where they face Stellenbosch FC in the semifinals on Sunday, May 5.

The match presents another opportunity for Mandela and his team to edge closer to a potential domestic double further cementing their status as one of South Africa's premier football clubs.
