Calvin Bassey's influence in Fulham's European chase has been noticeable in 2024-25.

The Cottagers' defender joined the Premier League side under a cloud in the summer of 2023 after a mixed year with Ajax but has slowly gone on from strength to strength at Craven Cottage and has now become one of the team's most consistent performers.

This season, in particular, has magnified the defender's influence for Marco Silva's men, with only four outfield players — Antonee Robinson, Alex Iwobi, Raul Jimenez (all 31 appearances) and Rodrigo Muniz (30) — featuring more often than Bassey.

While the defender's penchant for errors still surfaces intermittently, Bassey has made seven errors leading to shots this term, the Nigeria international more than makes up for that with his defensive style and ball-carrying ability.

No teammate has more blocks than the centre-back (36), only Joachim Andersen (18) has blocked more shots than the Nigerian (17), while the former Ajax defender ranks third for passes blocked (19) behind Robinson (29) and Iwobi (21).

As of April 11, 2025, no player has made more ball recoveries than Bassey (140), who leads Robinson (131) and Super Eagles colleague (119).

While Iwobi and Robinson influence Fulham's attack with their impressive ball-carrying, Bassey's inclination to aggressively carry his team upfield is underlined by his progressive carrying distance which ranks a close third behind the USMNT star and Iwobi.

Although the defender’s goal did not settle the game, given Bruno Fernandes levelled in the 71st minute, the Cottagers went on to claim the fifth round on penalties.
