Captain Ndidi costs Leicester as Villa pile more misery on the Foxes

Super Eagles star Wilfred Ndidi made a costly mistake to give Aston Villa a 2-1 win over Leicester City in their Premier League clash at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night. 

Ndidi was in action from start to finish but he would want to forget the match as soon as possible. 

Meanwhile, his countryman Kelechi Iheanacho was on the bench throughout the whole encounter. 

Leicester City needed a response after they were beaten by Crystal Palace last time out, leading to Brendan Rodgers’ dismissal. 

The two teams came at each other in the opening minutes of the game, but neither team could find a breakthrough. 

However, it all changed in the 24th minute as Ollie Watkins went on a brilliant solo run before slotting past Daniel Iversen in Leicester City’s goal. 

The goal gave Villa more belief as they went in search of a second, but a combination of poor finishing and Leicester’s resilience at the back kept the scoreline at 1-0. 

Villa would come to rue those missed chances as Leicester drew level just before the break, courtesy of a fine finish from Harvey Barnes. 

Barnes’ goal turned the tide around for the Foxes, who began the second half as the dominant team. 

Adam Sadler’s men were on the front foot for most parts of the second half, although they could not convert their dominance into a goal. 

But just as it looked like Leicester would win it, the momentum swung in Villa’s favour as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was sent off for a second bookable offence following a foul on Ashley Young. 

Leicester did hold on for most parts despite the disadvantage, but their hard work was undone three minutes from time after Ndidi’s misplaced pass allowed Bertrand Traore to slot home a brilliant curler from outside the box. 

The Foxes almost secured an equaliser after the referee awarded them a penalty in added minute, but the decision was rescinded following a VAR review. 

It turned out to be the last real action of the game as Leicester stayed in the relegation zone while Villa moved up to seventh.
