Chelsea 0-1 Nottingham: Awoniyi, Elanga combine to cook hapless Blues at Stamford Bridge

Mauricio Pochettino's Chelsea have now lost 2 of their 4 games this season, with this 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, a first home defeat of his tenure.

Victory over Luton Town lifted the mood at Stamford Bridge and the fans were in an expectant mood.

The Blues started in blistering fashion but they could not keep up the tempo after Conor Gallagher sent an ambitious effort off-target. 

At the other end, the excellent Taiwo Awoniyi uncharacteristically blazed his shot harmlessly over the crossbar with Joe Worrall getting in the way after the Blues had failed to clear their lines.

After a scrappy ending to the half, both teams began the second half in aggressive fashion, looking to break the deadlock.

The visitors broke the deadlock through Anthony Elanga. The ex-Manchester United winger punished the mix-up between Gallagher and Moisés Caicedo by racing onto Awoniyi’s through ball before applying a cool finish for his first club goal since February 2022.

Chelsea immediately pushed for an equaliser, but Willy Boly made a brilliant block to deny Jackson, and Forest held on for a famous win.
