Chelsea boss Pochettino tells Noni Madueke to raise his level amid lack of game time
Anglo-Nigerian forward Noni Madueke will have to improve his standards to enjoy improved game time at Premier League club, Chelsea.
Madueke has been told this by none other than his manager, Mauricio Pochettino, ahead of their Premier League encounter against Wolves this weekend.
Madueke has to step up
The 21-year-old has struggled for opportunities since the arrival of Pochettino at the club.
Madueke returned to London after putting pen to paper on a 28.5 million pound deal from PSV in January.
However, Noni’s time at Stamford Bridge has not gone to plan after just two goals in 20 appearances.
A combination of injuries and poor form have seen him restricted to just six matches in the Premier League this season and eight in all competitions, with the young forward scoring two goals.
Ahead of the game against Wolves this weekend, manager, Pochettino noted that the competition for places means the British-born Nigerian must raise his level to get more chances to feature for the Blues.
“From the beginning of the season, he was involved then not involved and suffered some injuries and problems,” Pochettino stated in his press conference per TalkSport.
“Noni is in a position where there is massive competition and he needs to increase his level,” he added.
"He was injured and now recovered and maybe will be involved in the next games."
The Blues, who take on the tricky Wolves on Christmas eve, sit in 10th, seven points off the top six and 17 off league leaders Arsenal.
