He said, “Tosin is available for tomorrow. I’m a little bit surprised because last week when he wasn’t available, the day before it was everywhere in the media. Now I don’t know why you don’t know he is available! But yes, he is available. Wes is back, as I said, and that’s all.”

However, the Italian tactician confirmed that Romeo Lavia and Benoît Badiashile remain sidelined, while Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku will also miss the trip to East London.

Maresca also spoke about teenage defender Aaron Anselmino, who made his debut in the Club World Cup against Benfica, stressing the youngster’s need for regular playing time.

“With Aaron, he is training with us, training very hard, and is a fantastic boy. He’s a really good player, but he needs to play games. He is another one who is waiting for a solution [over a loan move],” Maresca said.

First away test of the season

The clash with West Ham will be Chelsea’s first away fixture of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

The Blues will be hoping to build momentum after their opening-day draw against Crystal Palace, as Maresca continues to shape his squad in his debut season at Stamford Bridge.
