Christian Coleman’s Surprise Decision that Saved Sha’Carri Richardson from Further Punishment Over Domestic Violence
Sha’Carri Richardson is in the news for the wrong reasons again following reports that she was arrested last week over a physical assault on boyfriend Christian Coleman.
Richardson, who has been among those participating at the US National Championships this week, was arrested on July 28 after a video of her allegedly assaulting Coleman at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport emerged.
The world 100m champion was arrested with a fourth-degree domestic violence offence, according to the police report obtained by The Associated Press and was booked into the South Correctional Entity (SCORE) in Des Moines, Washington, at 6:54 p.m. Sunday and released Monday at 1:13 p.m.

On Thursday, Richardson, who has a bye to the 2025 World Championships, ran the opening round of the 100m at the USA Track and Field Championships, and according to a police report, Coleman, who is also participating at the event, made a move that may have saved the 25-year-old from further punishment.

"I was told Coleman did not want to participate any further in the investigation and declined to be a victim,” the police report says as per ESPN.
The report states that during the altercation, Coleman attempted to walk away but was followed and allegedly bumped into repeatedly by Richardson who reportedly threw a pair of headphones at him.
The officer at the scene witnessed the incident, noting that Coleman stumbled into a nearby column after being shoved.
The incident rekindles memories of 2021 when Richardson tested positive for Marijuana at the Tokyo Olympics trials was locked out of the Games despite sealing her ticket.
Richardson and Coleman have been dating since 2023 when they secretly went on a date during that year’s World Championships in Budapest, Hungary and after keeping it under wraps, they finally made it public early this year.
