‘Continue supporting us’ — Super Eagles players beg fans as World Cup hopes hang in the balance
The Super Eagles have sent a rallying cry to Nigerian fans ahead of their decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and South Africa.
With qualification hopes hanging by a thread, senior players are urging supporters to stay behind the team as they aim to turn the tide.
Iwobi calls for unity and belief
Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi set the tone with a heartfelt message to the fans, insisting that belief from the stands is just as important as the effort on the pitch.
“One message would be keep supporting us. As players, we believe, so if you guys can believe with us as well and give us the energy that we need to go and get the result that we need to achieve to go to the World Cup,” Iwobi said.

He added that the mood in camp is “good and optimistic” as the players prepare for their opener against Rwanda, stressing that their goal is to deliver the results Nigerians crave.
Ola Aina echoes confidence ahead of tough battles
Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina echoed similar sentiments, underlining the difficulty of the task ahead but vowing that the Super Eagles are ready to give their all.
“We know it’s a tough task ahead of us, but we’re ready for the challenge. We’re going to try our best, so keep believing and supporting us,” Aina declared.
Nigeria currently sit fourth in Group C with seven points, trailing Rwanda on eight and leaders South Africa on 13. With Rwanda visiting Uyo on September 6 before a daunting trip to face South Africa, the pressure is on.
The Super Eagles know that anything less than maximum points will end their qualification dreams, making the support of millions of fans across Nigeria more crucial than ever.
