Cyriel Dessers: Rangers exit door still open for Nigerian star despite goal against Manchester United

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers delivered a string of standout performances for Rangers recently, but his future at the club remains uncertain.

The 30-year-old forward has attracted interest from clubs across Europe, including Saint-Etienne, Cagliari, Empoli, and Leganes, with Monza emerging as the latest contender for his signature.

Despite being on the fringes of the Rangers’ first team, Dessers demonstrated his ability on the biggest stage with a spectacular late equaliser against Manchester United in the Europa League group stage.

The Nigerian striker brilliantly controlled a long ball from James Tavernier before smashing a volley past Altay Bayındır in the 88th minute, hoping that it would be enough to earn a draw for Rangers.

However, Bruno Fernandes' stoppage-time winner denied the Scottish club a point, leaving Dessers’ effort as a mere consolation.

The game was another example of Dessers' knack for delivering in crucial moments, but it hasn't guaranteed him a future at Rangers under manager Philippe Clement.

Clement has preferred new signing Hamza Igamane and has relegated Dessers to a rotational role, with the Nigerian striker forced to seek greener pastures and more game time elsewhere.

Dessers’ future at Ibrox is increasingly uncertain thanks to growing transfer speculation during the January transfer window.

While Leganés have shown interest in securing the striker on loan, they have struggled to meet Rangers’ €5 million valuation, the same fee the club paid Cremonese for him last summer.

Meanwhile, Monza, who are battling relegation in Serie A, have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Dessers to rescue their season.

Speaking on his situation, Dessers admitted, "I’m 30 years old and want to play every week, preferably at Rangers. If there are different feelings about that internally, then we need to talk.”

Despite not starting a game since November, Dessers reminded Rangers of his value with a hat-trick in their Scottish Cup victory over Fraserburgh, before making it four goals in two games with his goal against Manchester United. Yet, Clement has left the door open for his departure
