Dallas Mavericks select Cooper Flagg No 1 2025 NBA Draft
American basketball player Cooper Flagg has been selected as the top pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
The Duke freshman was regarded as the premier choice in Brooklyn, New York, and the Dallas Mavericks confirmed this by selecting the six-foot-nine star with their first pick of the night.
At just 18 years of age, Flagg was a teenage sensation who averaged more than 19 points per game for Duke this past season, guiding the Blue Devils to the NCAA Final Four, where they were defeated by Houston in the semifinals.
His family surrounded him, including his mother Kelly, who played collegiate basketball at Maine, and his twin brother Ace.
In draft history, Flagg is the second-youngest player to be selected as the No. 1 pick, with only LeBron James (the first overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003) being younger.
James was 18 years and 178 days old, and Flagg is 18 years and 186 days old.
With the second pick, the San Antonio Spurs selected Rutgers guard Dylan Harper, and the Philadelphia 76ers picked VJ Edgecombe—who hails from the Bahamas and played college basketball at Baylor—with the third pick.
The Charlotte Hornets selected another Duke star, Kon Knueppel, at fourth overall, while the Utah Jazz picked Ace Bailey, Harper's Rutgers teammate, to complete the first five selections.
