Daughter of Jezebel — Angry Nigerians drag World Cup winner for saying God does not exist
Theism is a concept many Nigerians hold dear, and this meant the statements of Megan Rapinoe when she alluded to the inexistence of God rubbed off many wrongly and even angered some.
What Rapinoe said about God
As Pulse Sports reported, while tragedy might lead people to a deeper spiritual connection, for USWNT legend Megan Rapinoe, it serves as proof that a higher power does not exist.
The 2019 Ballon d’Or winner had earlier announced her retirement, and in what was meant to be the final game of her career, she suffered an Achilles injury and was substituted only six minutes into proceedings.
The NWSL final between Reign FC and Gotham was meant to be Rapinoe’s crowning moment as he bowed out of the beautiful game, but she sustained an injury early in the game, and her team lost 2-1. She then went on to state that her misfortune is evidence that God does not exist.
Reactions to Rapinoe’s words
Commenting on the Pulse Sports Facebook page, one fan said, “I don't understand their hatred for God. If doesn't exist, then leave it for people who believe in God's salvation. It's not by force.
There's time for everything and reward for every utterance that comes out of the mouth.” And another went, “So God existed when you were winning the trophy.”
A third said, “They claim GOD doesn't exist but they can't keep him outta their mouths. They keep talking about him. Why talk about somebody that doesn't exist?" And a fourth, “Ur opinion, daughter of Jezebel, God is God forever.”
