Deontay Wilder: 3 Reasons why Edo Man lost to Joseph Parker
In a major upset, Joseph Parker defeated Deontay Wilder via unanimous decision following 12 rounds of action in Riyadh.
Parker Parker was the former WBO heavyweight champion, while Wilder held the reigning WBC heavyweight title until Tyson Fury defeated him.
However, Wilder, one of the most formidable punchers in the game, was hoping to use his victory over Parker to set up a matchup with Anthony Joshua.
All of those preparations were dashed, though, when the New Zealander won by an astounding unanimous decision, with the judges scoring it 118-111, 118-110, and 120-108.
Here are 3 reasons why Deontay Wilder lost to Joseph Parker
Following Wilder's loss to Parker social media was on fire about the shock result.
Wilder known as the most explosive boxer in the heavyweight division was a heavy favorite by betting sites.
1. Deontay Wilder has been inactive
Wilder came into the fight as the favorite based on his reputation, not his resume.
Parker without a doubt has a better resume compared to Wilder being in top fights against Joe Joyce, Dillian Whyte, Andy Ruiz, and Anthony Joshua to name a few.
Wilder after two losses to Tyson Fury only returned for a one round win against Robert Helenius back in October 2022.
Parker on the other hand was fighting for the fourth time in 2023 after victories against Simon Kean, Faiga Opelu, and Jack Massey.
2. Deontay Wilder is not a good boxer
For his fearsome reputation, Wilder is not a good technical boxer.
He once again showcased his flaws on the biggest stage in boxing.
Wilder has been finetuning his jab since teaming up with Malik Scott but this late in his career to become an elite technical boxer.
Parker dominated Wilder from start to finish by taking advantage of his inadequacies to take center stage and establish combinations to put off his timing.
3. Deontay Wilder had his eye on Anthony Joshua
Ahead of the monster card, Wilder was talking about the fight between Joshua and Wallin.
Wilder discussed the possibility of taking on Joshua in March 2024 dismissing the challenge of Parker.
Parker is a former heavyweight champion just like Wilder and put in a dominant performance with his boxing IQ to respond to the oversight.
Anthony Joshua sends message to Deontay Wilder
Anthony Joshua has not ruled out a fight with the American.
On the Day of Reckoning card in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night, Wilder and Joshua both featured.
To potentially face each other in a world title eliminator, the two former heavyweight champions were expected to win their respective matches against Parker and Otto Wallin.
But when Parker defeated Wilder by a wide margin on the scoreboard, their plans were called into question.
Joshua thinks the former WBC heavyweight champion might still be able to return in the future.
Joshua after defeating Otto Wallin is now expected to take on Filip Hrgovic for the IBF title following the undisputed fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
