Desabre was appointed in August 2022 as an emergency replacement to resurrect their qualifying campaign that was heading south.

His predecessor, Hector Cuper, had lost their two opening games against Gabon at home and Sudan away.

The Frenchman employed his tactics and changed the whole set-up of the team to go on and beat Mauritania 3-1 at home before drawing 1-1 away.

However, the 1-all draw was overturned and awarded to the Leopards after Mauritania fielded an ineligible player in Khadim Diaw.

DR Congo revenged against Gabon to win 2-0 away courtesy of Aaron Shibolo and Fiston Mayele in June before completing the mission against Sudan at home on Saturday.

The Leopards, who sat at the bottom of Group I, finished as the pool winners with 12 points.

Desabre eventually guided DR Congo to their 20th appearance alongside Mauritania, who finished second in the group.

His exploits have already earned him plaudits as several giants look for him as a possible target.
