Eric Chelle is good - Rwanda coach Adel Amrouche urges Nigerians to back Super Eagles manager
Rwanda head coach Adel Amrouche has called on Nigerians to rally behind Super Eagles boss Eric Chelle, insisting the Malian tactician deserves patience and respect as he continues his work with the national team.
The Rwandan made the remarks after his side’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Nigeria in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Substitute Tolu Arokodare netted the decisive goal to hand Chelle’s team a much-needed victory in Group C.
What Amrouche said
Speaking to reporters after the match, Amrouche praised Chelle’s efforts so far and urged Nigerians to stay united behind their coach despite criticism from some quarters.
“Your coach? Eric is a good coach. I know some people may be against him. But he’s starting to do his job. Don’t be negative. You must respect your coach,” Amrouche said.
Super Eagles eye South Africa test
The win against Rwanda lifted Nigeria’s hopes of qualification, with the Super Eagles now set for a crucial clash against Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Tuesday in Bloemfontein.
Chelle, who took charge of Nigeria earlier this year, has faced scrutiny following mixed results in the qualifiers.
However, Saturday’s win, combined with Amrouche’s public backing, could provide a morale boost ahead of the high-stakes encounter.
