His first goal came in the 53rd minute after Doku bulldozed past United defenders and set him up to delicately lift the ball over goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.

15 minutes later, Haaland’s relentless pressure rewarded City with a second goal as he outpaced Harry Maguire to a Bernardo Silva pass before calmly finishing again.

The 25-year-old completed 79% pass accuracy during the match, created one chance, recorded a key pass, and attempted five shots with three on target, including both goals.

Haaland also hit the woodwork and completed two of three dribble attempts, showing his all-around attacking threat.

Haaland’s dominant display saw him edge out fierce competition from Arsenal’s Martin Zubimendi, who also scored a brace in a convincing victory against Nottingham Forest.

Other notable nominees in the Pulse Sports Nigeria award included Noni Madueke and Newcastle United’s Nick Woltemade, but Haaland’s commanding performance earned the majority of votes.
