Euro 2024: Cody Gakpo moves level with Netherlands icons after scoring against Poland
Cody Gakpo scored the first of the Netherlands’ two goals in the Dutch’s 2-1 victory over Poland in Hamburg.
Poland vs Netherlands
Poland went 1-0 up early after Adam Buska’s headed effort matched Robert Lewandowski’s Euro 2012 feat, but Ronald Koeman’s troops scored twice to seal a comeback triumph at Volksparkstadion.
Gakpo levelled on the half-hour mark, with his 20-yard shot wrong-footing Wojciech Szczesny after coming off Bartosz Salamon.
Wout Weghorst completed the turnaround for the Oranje with seven minutes remaining to send the Dutch top of Group D before France face Austria on Monday.
The Liverpool man’s goal was his 10th for the Netherlands, taking him level with Ryan Babel, Mark van Bommel and Philip Cocu and the 25-year-old has netted the Oranje’s first at the 2022 World Cup and their first at Euro 2024.
Cody Gakpo has now scored the same amount of goals for the Netherlands as Ryan Babel, Mark van Bommel and Philip Cocu.
