The ex-Argentina international was Messi's teammate in the national team in his playing days, and he believes the 35-year-old decision to apologise is a sign of humility, assuring that he would not have done the same were he in his shoes.

Messi apologizes PSG

Messi has endured a tumultuous time in the French capital lately, reaching a crescendo, including being subject to boos by the club's ultras and the famous suspension for his unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia.

The former Barcelona man skipped training for a marketing trip to the Gulf, much to the anger of the club, who decided to suspend him; however, he has now been reinstated following a public apology via his social media.

His former teammate Tevez believes the gesture is beneath the Qatar 2022 winner, claiming he would not have done it were he a world champion.

The ex-West Ham striker says he would have left Paris for a relaxing trip back home if he were Messi, saying the club should be doing the apology, not the other way around.

“I think Messi gives us all a humbling blow,” he said, per TyC Sport.

“Because if you told me, when I was world champion, that I had to apologise for going on a trip when I had a day off, I'd go back to Rosario and stay there drinking, mate. You'd have to apologise to me!

“But Messi, the truth is, he puts the club above everything else. And I think that, in that case, you have to take your hat off to him. Then we can say a lot of things about a club that didn't really look after him. From the first moment he arrived, they didn't look after him. That's how it is.”
