Former Super Eagles coach Finidi George continues his impressive rise in the NPFL standings as Rivers United claimed a narrow but vital 1-0 win over Ibadan Warriors Shooting Stars at the weekend.

George, aiming for his second NPFL title and his first with Rivers United, has seen his team build strong momentum, especially on home soil.

True to expectations, as predicted by Pulse Sports Nigeria, Rivers United, who attracted fans to the Port Harcourt stadium with free jersey giveaways and ticket promotions, delivered a polished performance to secure all three points.

The game-winning moment came in the 72nd minute when Ubong Friday unleashed a powerful volley from inside the box that left the goalkeeper no chance.

The strike proved decisive as Rivers United climbed to second place in the league standings, tied on eight points with Enyimba, who themselves shocked Bayelsa United in an away victory.

Meanwhile, in Kano, former Super Eagles star Ahmed Musa gave Kano Pillars a much-needed boost as he scored a late winner in a tense clash against former champions Rangers. 

Musa, making a memorable return from injury, celebrated wildly after his strike sealed Pillars’ first win of the season.

The victory lifts Kano Pillars off the bottom of the table, putting them in 17th place, while Rangers remain just above them in 16th, both sides on four points.

Finidi George’s tactical nous coupled with veteran leadership from players like Musa is injecting fresh life into their respective clubs, as both Rivers United and Kano Pillars look to climb out of challenging positions this NPFL season.
