Fenerbahce vs Trabzonspor: Andre Onana shines in first match after leaving sinking ship Manchester United
Andre Onana made a strong impression on his Trabzonspor debut despite a narrow 1-0 defeat against Fenerbahce, showing his resilience just days after departing struggling Premier League club Manchester United.
The Cameroonian goalkeeper was in top form throughout the match, making eight crucial saves from 29 shots, and completing 15 recoveries that kept his new team competitive despite conceding a well-struck goal from Youssef En-Nesyri just before halftime.
Onana's sharp reflexes and commanding presence in goal prevented a heavier defeat, earning him a man-of-the-match-worthy performance on his first outing in the Turkish Super Lig.
At 29, Onana joined Trabzonspor on a season-long loan after an unremarkable stint at United, where opportunities were limited amid the club's struggles.
However, his display in Turkey suggests he is putting those frustrations behind him and is keen to revive his career with consistent starts and confident performances.
Nigerian international Paul Onuachu also played the full 90 minutes for Trabzonspor but was shown a yellow card during the contest.

Meanwhile, Onana’s absence counted for little in Manchester as Ruben Amorim and his Red Devils suffered a 3-0 defeat in the derby.
Erling Haaland, who scored a brace alongside Phil Foden, inspired Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to a comfortable and commanding win.
Despite the loss, Onana’s impressive debut will give Trabzonspor fans hope as he seeks to stabilise their defence throughout the campaign and demonstrate his class after moving on from Manchester United.
