Five-star NEC run riot against Busoga United

Newly promoted league side NEC FC continued their perfect start in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, picking up their first home league win of the season in style.

An emphatic 5-0 thrashing of Busoga United on Friday at the MTN Omondi Stadium earned the Bugolobi-based side their second straight league win.

Captain Marvin Kavuma led by example, notching his first brace in the top flight, while new arrivals Rashid Okocha and Brian Kayanja also got their names on the score sheet.

NEC head coach Hussein Mbalangu credited the team’s performance to executing their game plan.

“We’re happy we won our second straight game. It wasn’t simple, but we executed our game plan and strategy,” he noted in the post-match presser.

Kavuma credited the team’s performance to working as a unit; “We worked as a whole; the two wins motivate us to keep going."

The home side all but killed off the game in the first half, scoring four goals led by captain Marvin Kavuma, who opened the scoring after just eight minutes.

New signing Rashid Okocha doubled the hosts’ lead in the 28th minute from 12 yards after Allan Mugalu was fouled in the box, but that was just the beginning.

Steven Odongo put the ball in his own net to increase NEC’s lead to 3-0 seven minutes before the break, while Brian Kayanja ensured halftime reached with NEC leading 4-0.

Captain Marvin Kavuma sealed his brace in the 90th minute, heading home a corner kick.

NEC has now scored six goals in as many games this season; next up is an away game to record league champions S.C Villa.
