FKF signs landmark deal to boost football development ahead of busy season

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has taken a major step towards enhancing the standard of football in the country as Kenya gears up for an action-packed season.

With the nation set to host the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), preparations are in full swing to upgrade infrastructure and improve the overall football ecosystem.

FKF President Hussein Mohammed announced a groundbreaking partnership aimed at strengthening football facilities and capacity-building initiatives.

“Yesterday, on behalf of Football Kenya Federation, I signed an MOU with the President of the Moroccan Football Federation, Mr. Fouzi Lekjaam," wrote the FKF boss X (formerly Twitter).

"This bilateral agreement focuses primarily on capacity-building initiatives and exchange programs between the two countries. Infrastructure development of football facilities was another significant area of discussion," he continued.

Kenya poised to benefit from the support of Morocco who have a highly developed football ecosystem in terms of the set up of their national teams and infrastructure.

"The offer of support from the Kingdom of Morocco to our federation is a significant step in the realization of our aspirations in reclaiming our football glory days."

Kenya had already embarked on an ambitious project to upgrade its football infrastructure.

Renovation efforts at Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadiums are well underway to meet international standards.

In addition, the country is constructing Talanta Stadium, a soccer-specific venue that will serve as the primary host for AFCON 2027 matches.

The FKF-Morocco partnership is expected to provide crucial technical expertise, knowledge sharing, and infrastructural support to fast-track these developments.

With these strides, Kenya is positioning itself as a formidable footballing nation, ready to host and compete at the highest levels of African football.
