Former Juventus and Real Madrid coach slams the Old Lady for a big transfer decision
Renowned Italian coach Fabio Capello criticised Juventus's decision to let Dean Huijsen go, stating that it was a symptom of poor talent identification.
Huijsen on the rise
The 20-year-old recently secured a €50 million move to Real Madrid and immediately inserted himself into the lineup, starting all their Club World Cup games so far, including the victory against Juventus this evening.
However, he could and should have been starting for the opposing team, as the Old Lady scouted him early in his career and signed him to their youth set-up in 2021.
He played only one match for the Juventus senior team before being sent out on loan to AS Roma and subsequently sold to Bournemouth in the Premier League.
The Spain international blossomed in England, and after only one season, in which he also secured his La Roja debut, he bagged his dream move to Real Madrid.
What Capello said
The former AC Milan coach told Gazzetta dello Sport that he believes Huijsen's talent should have been too good to miss, questioning Juventus's decision to let him go when they did.
“I am surprised that Juventus didn’t see the clear potential of the boy,” Capello said. “Huijsen didn’t just suddenly become good. If he’s playing for Real Madrid at 20, he’s surely good enough for Juventus."
