Four Clubs, One Dream Achieved: FUFA Big League Stars Earn Top Flight Promotion
The battle for promotion to the Uganda Premier League is never cut and dry. It requires consistency, grit, and a will to win no matter the odds. Following months of hard-fought battles in the FUFA Big League, four clubs led by Black Power, can now rest easy knowing that they did what it takes to join Uganda's top-flight league for the 2026-27 season.
Blacks Power FC, Kigezi HomeBoyz FC, Ntugasaze FC, and Kataka FC have been officially promoted to the Uganda Premier League, according to Bettingtop10 Uganda, finishing their respective campaigns knowing that their efforts were rewarded with promotion to the highest level. Here at StarTimes, we take you through how each side secured promotion and why fans of each club will never forget their journeys to the top.
Blacks Power Lead the Way
If one word could describe Black Power FC's season, it would be determined. Despite finding themselves involved in a thrilling title race, the Lira side showed great resolve to match league leaders Kataka FC and kept their cool when it mattered most. Their final-day draw against Onduparaka FC was enough to confirm their position as FUFA Big League champions on 55 points and return to the Uganda Premier League at the first attempt.
"It feels great to finally lift the trophy," club chairman Isaac chimed in. "This achievement is dedicated to all of our supporters back in Lira."
Promotion is sweet revenge for Blacks Power, who have endured tough times in recent years and spent plenty of time battling against relegation. However, the club has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to return to the top-flight of Ugandan football, assembling a competitive squad and rising up the ranks once again.
Kigezi HomeBoyz Make Regional History
Few promotions will come quite as sweet as Kigezi HomeBoyz FC's. The club becomes the first-ever side from Kabale to feature in the Uganda Premier League. Their arrival also signals a return of top-flight football to the Kigezi region after approximately 25 years. Fans across the area now have a club to call their own in the Uganda Premier League, and supporters will have plenty to celebrate when the season kicks off.
"All glory to God! We finally made it to the top-flight of Ugandan football!" club chairman Kenneth Komakech said. "I would also like to thank all of our fans for supporting us throughout. You guys are the best!"
HomeBoyz edged out rivals Makindye East FC on points and showed consistent improvement throughout the campaign, challenging for the title at one stage. Led by Ugandan Premier League veteran Khalid Siryajo, their performances went unnoticed no longer, and now Kigezi has a club to be proud of.
Ntugasaze's Consistency Finally Pays Off
The best victories often go unnoticed. Ntugasaze FC spent the majority of the FUFA Big League season challenging for promotion, and they kept their foot on the gas right until the final day. With many eyes on league leaders Blacks Power and Kataka FC, Ntugasaze delivered another strong performance to see off Kiyinda Boys FC 2-0 on matchday 30.
"It means everything to this club," head coach Ronald Kutesa told StarTimes. "We have worked so hard over the past few years, and our players have remained disciplined throughout the season. They deserve this promotion."
Despite narrowly missing out on the title, Ntugasaze will not have any regrets after turning themselves into promotion contenders. Now they'll hope to build on that strong foundation by mixing it with Uganda's best.
Kataka Finally Break Through
Promotion is especially tasty for Kataka FC. The Mbale giants were involved in many a promotion race over the years, but often fell agonizingly short on the final day. Not this season.
Coming up against Soltilo Bright Stars on matchday 30, Kataka knew a win would guarantee their place in the Uganda Premier League next season. Goals from Daniel Mugalu and Yonasi Wanyama sealed a famous victory, and promotion celebrations erupted across Mbale and beyond.
"Thank you to everyone who has supported us," Kataka FC chairman Moses Kategaya said. "We couldn't have done this without you."
