Christopher Nkunku is determined to put his injury-plagued first season behind him and make a significant impact for Chelsea in the upcoming season.
The 26-year-old forward, who joined the Blues last summer, struggled with injuries throughout the 2023/24 season but is now feeling rejuvenated and focused on showcasing his talent over a sustained period.
Nkunku ready to repay Chelsea faith after injuries
"I am feeling better after the difficult season last year," Nkunku emphasized in an interview with the Chelsea official website.
"I had a nice break during the summer. I needed it. I worked a little bit before coming here, but it was important for me to break after this year, for my head also. It was good."
Nkunku is now fully focused on the pre-season training and is working hard to stay fit and build on the team's solid foundation.
"Now I am working in every training session to stay fit and to go forward in a good way. Pre-season is very good and the team is good. We are practicing the hard work to be fresh and ready to play some friendly games."
The Frenchman is also impressed with new head coach Enzo Maresca's ideas and approach to the game. "The new head coach brings very good ideas to play," Nkunku said. "We are all happy to practice every training with him. Now it is just the beginning. We need to learn and to fix in every training the way he wants us to play.
"We are on this way to learn. If everybody has the idea of the coach to play, we will produce good football this year."
Nkunku's primary goal for the upcoming season is to stay healthy and repay the faith shown in him by the Chelsea board last summer.
