Funmilayo Oyero: Meet 8-year-old Nigerian golfer representing Lagos state at the National Youth Games

At the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta state, watch out for Funmilayo Oyewo an 8-year-old young girl who will be making history at the competition.

Funmilayo Oyero is one of the delegates that will represent the nation’s commercial centre Lagos state at the ongoing National Youth Games in South-South Nigeria.

Miss Funmilayo Beauty Oyero is the youngest Lagos athlete in the ongoing Youth Games, which kicked off on September 23 in Asaba.

In a tweet on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Lagos State government disclosed that Funmilayo, a basic 4 pupil at Victory Children School, Sango Ota, started playing golf at the age of one.

The Lagos state government also appreciated Funmilayo’s parents for allowing their daughter fly the flag of the South-Western state. 

The seventh edition of the Youth Games started on Saturday with the opening ceremony.

Sports minister John Owan Enoh broke kolanuts, a traditional sign of peace, friendship, and positive beliefs, to herald the Youth Olympics.

He also revealed that the National Youth Games will help the people of Nigeria foster peace and unity with one another.

Actions continue in Asaba today, and children below 15 like Funmilayo Oyero will battle it out for laurels.
