Guirassy surpasses Drogba, Eto'o, and Salah to become first African to hit 13 goals in a single UCL season
Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy has written his name in football history after becoming the first African to score 13 goals in a single UEFA Champions League season.

Guirassy, 29, put on a show as Borussia Dortmund narrowly missed out on a place in the semifinal after a four-goal thriller against in-form Barcelona at the Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday night.
Trailing 4-1 on aggregate, the 29-year-old Guinea had the Germans dreaming of the impossible after hitting a sensational hattrick to give them a 3-1 lead on the night.
Guirassy’s historic tally, which included a breathtaking hat-trick in the quarterfinals—also the first by an African at that stage—eclipsed the previous bests of Drogba (10 goals), Salah (11 goals, twice), and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (10 goals).
His 13 goals even outstripped the single-season Champions League hauls of Dortmund greats Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski, both capped at 10.
Despite Guirassy’s heroics, Dortmund fell short in their quarterfinal clash, losing 5-3 on aggregate to Barcelona.
The Spanish giants, reaching the semi-finals for the first time since 2018/19, capitalised on a four-goal first-leg advantage.
Dortmund’s valiant home effort, sparked by Guirassy’s brilliance, hinted at a miraculous comeback, but they exited the competition with heads held high, ruing their first-leg deficit.
Guirassy’s record-breaking season not only cements his place among Africa’s footballing elite but could also inspire a new generation, as he redefines what’s possible on Europe’s grandest stage.
