Barcelona manager Hansi Flick stressed the importance of their fringe players as their match schedules become increasingly jam-packed.
A midweek Champions League clash against Newcastle was sandwiched between two LALIGA games. The Blaugrana are set to play another league game midweek and another by the weekend before playing PSG in the UCL days after.
With those games accumulating, Flick emphasised the importance of many players in the squad being fit and firing.
What Hansi Flick said
Barcelona have had to navigate the last three games without Lamine Yamal and Alejandro Balde. In their stead, Marcus Rashford and Gerard Martin stepped up.
Also, Ferran Torres proved a reliable backup when Robert Lewandowski was working his way to fitness. Players like Marc Casado, Eric Garcia and Fermin Lopez have also stepped up this season to Flick’s delight.
“It’s very important to have players in top form,” he said, per Football Espana. “We have matches every three or four days, so it’s great that our players are performing at a high level.
“We have 25-27 players, and we need everyone. The most important thing for me is that each player gives their best for the team’s benefit, and Dani Olmo did that today.
That’s what we will expect from him throughout the season. Every player in the team is important, and I’m happy to have attackers of this level; they help us a lot.”
