The former Everton striker is a Premier League great in his own right. He played in the English top flight across multiple clubs and scored 95 goals.

What Aiyegbeni said

The Premier League has witnessed some of the best players from the African continent. As is unavoidable in a competitive space like sports, there are usually conversations to crown the greatest.

An interview from former Everton striker Yakubu made the rounds on the internet today when he addressed Salah's claim as the greatest African player to play in the Premier League.

The 41-year-old acknowledged Salah's qualities but refused to dub him the best. It would have been understandable if he gave that crown to either of his compatriots, Jay Jay Okocha or Kanu Nwankwo, who were also top-rated Premier League stars; instead, he gave the title to Drogba.

“You cannot say Salah is the greatest African to play in the Premier League. Drogba was something special because he was scoring for fun,” Ayegbeni told Goal.

“However, you have to give Salah the credit for breaking the big legend’s record, which makes him one of the greatest Africans in the English top-flight, but for now, he is certainly not the greatest.”

Didier Drogba won four Premier League titles with Chelsea. He scored 104 goals in 254 appearances. Salah, on the other hand, has only won one Premier League title. So far, he has scored 158 in 264 appearances in the English top flight.
