Heathens, Kobs, Pirates & Hippos: the previous Nile Special 7s winners of all-time
Stanbic Black Pirates are on course to win this year’s Nile Special National Rugby Sevens title if they go on to reach the semifinal of the Kyabazinga Sevens in Jinja over the weekend.
This is the 22nd edition since the 2001 season, which Heathens won.
Overall, the Kyadondo side has scooped eleven titles since then and remains the team to beat as they seek their 12th this year.
However, Heathens, who were pipped by Jinja Hippos last year, have not lifted the country’s second-most prized rugby trophy for over a decade.
The last time they won it was in 2013, when they completed a hat trick after scooping three years in a row.

Since then, Kobs has won five times as Pirates, Buffaloes, and Hippos grabbed their maiden titles in 2014, 2018 and 2022, respectively.
In Jinja, Heathens will hope against all odds for the Pirates to be stopped before the semifinals as they put their stakes to go all the way and win the leg for a chance at the overall trophy.
