His title again? Supercomputer predicts who among Salah, Haaland, and Son will be Premier League top scorer
With the 2024/25 Premier League season set to kick off, the race for the Golden Boot is also set to captivate audiences, and a supercomputer has predicted which of the league’s stars will secure the coveted title of top scorer.
With Manchester City's Erling Haaland eyeing a third consecutive Golden Boot, the competition is fierce, featuring Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and Chelsea's Cole Palmer among the top contenders.
Haaland favourite to retain Golden Boot
Manchester City's Haaland is poised to make history by potentially winning his third Golden Boot in as many seasons, according to the supercomputer.
If the Norwegian achieves this, he would be the first player since Arsenal’s Thierry Henry to win the prize three times in a row and only the third player to do so in Premier League history after Henry and Alan Shearer.
Haaland is predicted to break the 30-goal barrier once again, after doing so in his first season with Manchester City, when he scored 36 goals in the Premier League and 52 overall.
Salah and Palmer the closest contenders
Liverpool's Mohamed Salah is tipped to be Haaland's closest rival in the race for the Golden Boot, with the Egyptian forward expected to reach at least the 25-goal mark in the 2024/25 season.
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer has also been tipped to have another big season, although the supercomputer only has him scoring 21 goals, one less than the England international managed last season.
Other players expected to be in the mix include Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, and Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, who were all tipped to score just under 20 goals in the 2024/25 Premier League season.
Tottenham’s Son Heung-min, who won the 2021/22 Premier League Golden Boot is only expected to score 16 goals, one more than Bukayo Saka, who is backed to be Arsenal’s top scorer next season.
