How Ministry of Sports plans to reach every corner of Kenya for the Talanta Hela Program

Sports Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke has said the Ministry intends to incorporate technology as they aim to identify, develop and monetize talent.

Speaking during the 12th Edition of the Connected Summit, Mueke revealed that through the Talanta Hela program, they will have to go deep into the grassroots.

The program, which was unveiled on February 15, aims to professionalize talent among the young people which will in turn be a source of income for them.

With his background in Information Technology, Mueke noted that he is keen on bringing in ideas that will make it easier for the ministry as they seek to grow sports in the country.

“We want to see how we can use technology, Artificial Intelligence and virtual reality to go out and identify and nurture talent. Talent is not only found in the big cities but also in the villages and the counties.

We want to reach a point where the scouts do not have to physically go to a location to see the skills that our youngsters have. Technology will make this initiative for us,” the PS said.

He added that going forward, the ministry wants to significantly build the sports industry to be a major driver of the economy.

“We have a vision to ensure we build this sports industry. We want sports to be a major driver of our economy and a major contributor to our GDP,” he said.
