Howard Webb admits to first major refereeing error, denying Iwobi and Bassey's Fulham a goal against Chelsea

The 18-year-old talent had given Fulham the lead in the 22nd minute at Stamford Bridge; however, following a lengthy VAR review, the goal was overturned for a foul by Rodrigo Muniz, who inadvertently stepped on Trevoh Chalobah while trying to turn.

Chelsea went on to win the match 2-0, and Michael Salisbury, the VAR official for that game, was subsequently removed from duty for the derby between Liverpool and Arsenal the following day.

After the game, Marco Silva criticised the VAR officials, saying, 'It's unbelievable to disallow a goal like that.'

"It wasn't debatable, it was wrong. We've established certain principles regarding how we officiate in the Premier League and how we use VAR.

"These involve a high threshold for penalising such contacts to help the flow and tempo of the game. We've also set a high bar for VAR intervention.

"In this situation, those guidelines were not followed correctly. There was a misjudgment by the officials involved regarding the contact between Muniz and Chalobah.

"The officials focused too much on the contact itself, without considering the full context of how it happened," stated Webb, as reported by Sportal.
