'I believe we will achieve great things together' - Alonso looking to create memories at Madrid
The former Bayer Leverkusen manager signed a three-year contract today, replacing Carlo Ancelotti.
He officially starts on June 1st and will lead the team at the Club World Cup, which begins two weeks later.
Alonso's press conference
"This is undoubtedly a very special day for me, a day I'll remember forever. I'm thrilled to be back here, in what feels like home.
"My connection with Real Madrid has never faded, and since stepping into Valdebebas an hour and a half ago, that feeling has been rekindled," Alonso stated, via Abola.
"I feel like this is the start of a new chapter. Florentino, thank you so much for your faith in me. I sense the fans' hope and desire to embark on this new journey, to grow, and to write an even more magnificent chapter in this club's history. Thank you also to my family, who always support me," Xabi continued.
"Before discussing this new era, I want to acknowledge the man who departed. Carlo Ancelotti was my coach and a great man who had a huge impact on me.
"Without his guidance, I probably wouldn't be here. I take the reins and accept his legacy with great honour and pride. I hope to live up to expectations and lead the club wherever we all believe we can go.
"We're starting a new chapter, and I feel the club and the fans are united. We have a great team, fantastic players, and enormous potential.
"This gives me reason to approach this with energy and belief. We're convinced we can achieve great things, things worthy of Real Madrid.
"We want the fans to be proud, to feel the excitement and joy. We want them to come to the stadium to enjoy themselves. If we ignite that spark, we'll have an unstoppable force. We are convinced we can create something beautiful. Thank you very much. Hala Madrid!" the coach concluded.
