"I Don't Cry for Those Who Leave" - Sporting Fans Take Aim at Arsenal target Gyokeres
Arsenal are close to completing the signing of Gyokeres after the Swedish star told Sporting president that he will not play for the club anymore.
Amidst the standoff between Viktor Gyokeres and Sporting CP, the the club supporters group made their stance clear.
Fans hit out at Swedish Gyokeres
According to Abola, during the Lions' first pre-season match open to the public against Celtic at Estádio Algarve, the organised group unveiled a banner reading, " don't cry for those who leave; I'm happy for those who stay."
In the second half, the Sporting fans displayed another banner, reiterating their feelings about the Gyokeres situation: "No one is above the club's interests, no matter who they are!" They added, "Focused on the Tri," a message of unity for Rui Borges' squad.
The banner, alluding to a phrase uttered by Eduardo Quaresma last season, presumably targets Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish striker refused to report for training in Alcochete last Saturday and did not travel to Lagos, where Sporting are holding their pre-season camp.
Four days later, Sporting fans responded to the club's top scorer of the past two seasons. After scoring 97 goals in 104 appearances for Sporting, Gyokeres is reportedly seeking a move to Arsenal. However, the Gunners have yet to reach an agreement with the Lions, led by president Frederico Varandas.
In Gyokeres' absence, Harder is the striker best positioned to replace the Swedish goalscorer.
