Aston Villa, like many other clubs, was forced to adhere to strict UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations and the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules.
This led to significant cuts in their wage budget and the sale of talented academy product Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle.
What Konsa said
On the final day of the transfer window, Victor Lindelöf, Jadon Sancho, and Harvey Elliott joined the team on loan. Manager Unai Emery and captain John McGinn have already called for a reform of these rules.
Konsa, currently preparing for England's World Cup 2026 qualifier against Andorra at Villa Park, stated, "It's crazy. I don't understand it myself, but from the outside, it doesn't look good. I know it crippled us this transfer window. We have to deal with what we have now."
Aston Villa players have secured just one point from their opening three Premier League matches and are yet to score. Despite this, Konsa believes the team will bounce back after the international break.
"We have a great squad; I believe in our team and the manager. I hope the new players will help us and push us forward. After two very good seasons, we want to continue and play in the Champions League," he added, as reported by Abola.
