Former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has made a bold claim about Chelsea's midfield duo, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, stating they have the potential to dominate every Premier League team except Manchester City.
Mikel Obi shared his thoughts on his podcast while discussing Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca's handling of the recent racism controversy surrounding Argentine midfielder Fernandez.
Maresca had defended Fernandez after the ex-Benfica man posted a video of his teammates singing offensive chants about French players during their Copa América victory celebration.
Mikel Obi backs Enzo Fernandez, Caicedo for greatness
The Chelsea legend expressed his concerns about the incident, saying:
"Enzo needs to find a way to deal with that, and for me, poor guy, what a way to start your Chelsea career.
"This is a massive thing. You have about nine, 10 players who unfollowed one of your stars, and a player we think you need to get the best out of."
Obi believes that if Chelsea can get the best out of Fernandez, he and Caicedo can form a formidable partnership in midfield. He emphasized:
"If you get the best out of this guy, he is a fantastic footballer. Him and Caicedo in that middle, we will dominate any team I promise you in the Premier League, but probably not Manchester City."
Meanwhile, Chelsea are close to sealing deals for Samu Omorodion and Wolves forward Pedro Neto.
