Mikel Obi joined Chelsea in 2006 after impressing at the Under-20 FIFA World Cup, leading Nigeria to the final against Argentina.

The midfielder had to choose between Manchester United and Chelsea, with both teams fighting to get his signature.

The Chelsea legend went on to make 372 appearances, scoring 6 goals and providing 13 assists during his playing days at Chelsea.

2013 AFCON winner Mikel Obi has explained that he was lucky to train with legends after joining Chelsea in 2006.

Speaking on beIN Sports, Mikel Obi, “Obviously he was the captain. Marcel definitely looked after me.

“I was a kid coming from Africa from Nigeria and go into that dressing room, you know, being able, lucky enough to train with legends and and and and amazing players, you know, like Marcel.

“John Terry, Jimmy Floyd and Celeste Barbaro—these were the guys, you know. The dressing room was, you know, it was packed with stars.

“And, so I had the pleasure of training with them for, like, he said, you know, 23 weeks. I think it was Claudio the manager back then. 

“Yeah, yeah, I had a great, 23 weeks with them, and, you know, I was there, too, with no fear to show.

“You know what I have to do and who you know, who I am? And, I was lucky enough to show that to the club and also impress players like, you know, like myself.

He revealed that he is pleased with Lookman for picking Nigeria over England at a very young age in his career.
