I'm happy Barcelona failed to sign Nico Williams — LALIGA president
LALIGA president Javier Tebas has expressed his happiness over Barcelona's failure to land their marquee summer transfer target, Nico Williams.
Barcelona's failed race for Williams
The Blaugrana’s desire to sign the Spain international is a poorly kept secret, with ,the club's president even admitting their interest in a public showing.
However, Williams opted to continue at Athletic Club beyond the summer, rejecting Barcelona’s approach. They eventually settled for Leipzig’s Dani Olmo, who is proving to be a good signing so far.
Recently, the club's sporting director, Deco, explained their reasons for not signing Nico, suggesting that they had enough cover in the position. With the transfer window having closed, Tebas, who oversees the administration of the league, expressed his delight over how the events played out.
What Tebas said
The Spanish League football administrator explained that Nico Williams remaining at Athletic Club was good for balance and competition in the league; hence, he was happy with the player's decision to remain at the Basque side.
