'I'm sure Yamal will win the Ballon d'Or' - Four-time F1 champion tips Barcelona star to presitgious award

Yamal broke through the Barcelona ranks at the age of 16 and went on to become an integral part of the club.

The Spanish youngster became known for his trickery and skill, and went on to win the award for the youngest player in the world (Copa Trophy) in 2024.

Four-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen recently sat down for an extensive interview with "Mundo Deportivo," via Abola, where he discussed not only his sport but also his passion for FC Barcelona as a devoted fan.

He recalled his belief in Hansi Flick's appointment as the Catalan club's manager last summer and also weighed in on the chances of the team's young star, Lamine Yamal, winning the coveted Ballon d'Or.

“Yes, I had faith in Barça last summer. But at one point, I also felt a bit of concern because in Spain, Barça and Real Madrid are two incredible clubs, and the rivalry between them is always intense. So there will always be a fierce competition between them for who wins La Liga or who achieves more success overall.

"However, I had faith. I like Barça's style under Flick; things are going well so far. It's very offensive, and sometimes there are risks in defense. It depends, because it works most of the time. But, of course, it also depends a bit on how other teams play. You can't always use the same tactics, but I like it, and it's working out well.”

“What he's doing is incredible and impressive for his age. It's true that the Ballon d'Or should be won by the best, but honestly, now, after the era of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, there's no clear winner, at least in my opinion.

"There isn't one specific player who is significantly ahead of the rest right now. Perhaps someone is still too young or something like that. However, I am sure that Yamal will win the Ballon d'Or in the coming years,” Verstappen stated.
