Champion League finalists Inter Milan are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea’s captain, Cesar Azpilicueta, and are said to already have a two-year contract prepared for him.
The 33-year-old signed a two-year extension with the Blues last summer amid interest from Barcelona, and although he is on a contract until 2024, his agents are reportedly working on taking him away from Chelsea this window.
What happened
According to Sky Italia, the Serie A giants have fingered the Spaniard as a viable option to strengthen their backline with the exits of Milan Skriniar and Danilo D'Ambrosio.
The defender started only 16 Premier League games last season, and his representatives are allegedly working on freeing him from his current deal, as he is still contracted to the West London side until the summer of 2024.
The report suggests that Inter are trying to get him on a free transfer and are prepared to offer him a two-year contract.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will let him leave for free, but their need to lighten their wage bill could serve as an incentive.
